TSMC’s Q3 Results Put HPC Demand in Focus, Not Data-Center Deliveries
Earnings released October 15, 2026 · Sources rechecked October 16, 2026
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company reported third-quarter revenue of NT$1.494 trillion, up 50.9% from a year earlier. High-performance computing accounted for 68% of net revenue, compared with 57% a year earlier, according to its October 15 management report.
The results show growing revenue at a major advanced-chip supplier. High-performance computing includes workloads beyond AI, however, and the report does not separate AI-only sales or allocate revenue to individual customers.
Computing grows as margins ease
Revenue was US$46.72 billion for the quarter ended September 30. High-performance-computing revenue rose 22% from the prior quarter. Technologies of 7 nanometers and below accounted for 79% of wafer revenue.
Gross margin was 66.4%, down 1.3 percentage points from Q2. TSMC attributed the decline primarily to the initial ramp of its N2, or 2-nanometer, manufacturing technology. Capital expenditures were NT$443.21 billion, compared with NT$496.00 billion in Q2.
TSMC forecasts fourth-quarter revenue of US$52.3 billion to US$54.3 billion. Reuters reported that management described robust AI demand while planning cautiously for 2027 because of macroeconomic uncertainty and pressure on price-sensitive markets.
What the results tell infrastructure investors · Analysis
Revenue growth and the larger computing share provide evidence of demand reaching the semiconductor supply chain. The margin decline and lower quarterly capital expenditure show why demand, manufacturing costs and investment timing need separate assessment.
These companywide figures do not measure a particular data center’s delivered capacity, utilization or earnings. Project conclusions require their own construction, electricity and customer-service evidence.
The next checkpoint
TSMC’s financial calendar lists October monthly sales for November 10, 2026, subject to change. That release will provide another revenue observation ahead of the fourth-quarter results; it will not separately identify AI-only revenue or campus economics.
