Regulated electricity for a Minnesota campus
Xcel Energy is a regulated electricity supplier whose proposed agreement with Google would support a new data center in Pine Island, Minnesota. The commercial structure places incremental service and grid costs on the customer. Xcel’s role is power and infrastructure provision, separate from operating Google’s AI workloads.

June 2026 balance-sheet context
At June 30, 2026, Xcel reported $39.457 billion of total debt and $24.057 billion of common equity. Debt represented 62% of capitalization, compared with 59% at the previous year-end. These company-wide financing measures do not identify the investment or profit attributable to the Pine Island project.
A signed proposal awaiting approval
The February 2026 announcement described a signed electricity service agreement and a proposed clean-energy charge, both requiring Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approval. This establishes a proposed customer relationship, rather than confirmation that the campus has begun receiving service or that the supporting resources are operating.
New resources and customer contributions
The plan proposed 1,400 MW of wind, 200 MW of solar and 300 MW of storage. These are resource capacities, not the campus’s computing capacity. Google would fund incremental costs and contribute $50 million to CapacityConnect under the announced arrangement.
Regulatory terms and funding needs
Xcel reported $4.694 billion of liquidity on July 28, 2026, including $3.603 billion of undrawn credit and $1.091 billion of cash. A separate $1.5 billion term loan matures in January 2027. Regulatory approval and resource construction remain project requirements alongside the company’s broader financing program.

Establish approved scope and service dates
An approval decision would clarify the agreement’s final terms. Defined resource commissioning and campus-service dates would then permit progress to be measured. Project revenue and incremental returns have not been separately disclosed, so the proposed resource capacity alone cannot establish the opportunity’s contribution to Xcel earnings.

Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
CoreSite DE3 / Race Street campus
CoreSite names Xcel Energy as electricity provider for planned DE3 compute capacity; executed service terms, actual load and attributable earnings unestablished.
The documented role does not establish contract value, project-level earnings, accepted operating load or a share of company revenue.
DataBank Centennial Campus / DEN5
Utility infrastructure participant: DataBank identifies an off-site Xcel substation serving its Centennial campus.
The source does not establish AI-only workload, project tariff economics or Xcel earnings.
Gemini / Sioux Falls Technology Park
Former land seller: Xcel's annual report confirms its Sioux Falls land sale to Gemini Capital.
The sale does not establish a signed utility service agreement, contracted megawatts or present utility earnings from the proposed campus.
Google Pine Island
Xcel Energy is the electric-service provider and counterparty to the Clean Energy Accelerator Charge; the Minnesota PUC lists its agreement with Google subsidiary Echo Zone as under review. Agreement economics and project-specific utility earnings are not established.
The documented role does not establish contract value, project-level earnings, accepted operating load or a share of company revenue.
Meta Rosemount
Meta names Xcel Energy as its energy-planning counterparty for Rosemount.
Energy planning is not campus ownership, quantified live load or disclosed project profit.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
