NRG Energy
Business, financial evidence and documented connections to the AI buildout.
Business and AI exposure
NRG operates power generation and retail energy businesses. Its AI infrastructure exposure includes a proposed Texas generation project serving a hyperscaler. The company would earn returns from electricity and capacity arrangements, rather than from the customer’s computing or AI application revenue.

Financial context
For Q2 2026, NRG reported $506 million of net income. At June 30, unrestricted cash was approximately $200 million and available credit was $5.1 billion. New generation spending therefore sits alongside debt reduction, shareholder distributions and the company’s existing operations.
Products and delivery
Terms had been aligned for the proposed 1.2 GW Texas project, but final documentation and investment approval remained pending. Its conditional inclusion as a studied load in ERCOT’s process still requires verification, studies and interconnection work; it is not permission to energize.
Plans and commitments
NRG projected a $3.2 billion project cost and commercial operation in late 2029. At full operation, management projected $500 million of annual adjusted EBITDA and $375 million of free cash flow before growth investment. Those are prospective project economics, not current earnings.
Economics and dependencies
The proposed structure includes a term of at least fifteen years, a customer parent guarantee and capacity payments supporting about 95% of project free cash flow. Final contracts, investment authorization, construction and interconnection must still be completed before those economics can be realized.
What to watch
Final documentation, a final investment decision and interconnection progress will clarify whether construction can proceed on the proposed basis. The separate development agreement for up to 5.4 GW should not be interpreted as commissioned supply or an amount of delivered AI load.
Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
No named tracked-project role has been established by the evidence used for this profile. This does not mean the company has no AI exposure.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
