Financing data-center construction

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s banking operations participate in financing digital infrastructure. At DataBank’s South Dallas campus, MUFG Bank acted as administrative agent, coordinating lead arranger and sole bookrunner on the original construction loan, and later as lead placement agent for private notes.

Capital position in June 2026

For the quarter ended June 2026, MUFG reported a common equity Tier 1 ratio of 12.95%, or 10.8% excluding unrealized securities gains. Its estimates under finalized Basel III rules were 11.4% and 9.5%, respectively. These bank-level measures do not reveal the profitability of individual data-center financings.

Construction financing has closed

DataBank’s April 2026 announcement described $2 billion of financing for the first three South Dallas buildings, totaling 180 MW and already leased. The financing was completed, but that milestone is different from finishing the buildings, energizing equipment or receiving operating acceptance from tenants.

A larger campus financing package

In June 2026, financing for the Red Oak campus increased to $2.65 billion to support an additional 60 MW building. The incremental $650 million comprised $400 million of bank loans and $250 million of private notes. A separate $800 million revolver provided corporate funding.

Arrangement roles differ from retained risk

MUFG’s role can generate arranging, placement and lending economics, but the full financing amount is not necessarily its own loan exposure. Its retained commitment, fees and project-specific credit risk were not disclosed. Construction execution and borrower performance remain relevant to any credit it retains.

Connect financing to operating assets

Construction completion and tenant service would establish how the financed campus progresses toward operating cash generation. For MUFG shareholders, disclosures about retained exposure and income would be needed to quantify the bank’s participation; the facility’s total loan size cannot be counted as MUFG revenue.

Documented project connections

Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.

Mistral AI Bruyères-le-Châtel

MUFG Bank was identified as a lender in the Mistral AI financing by transaction counsel.

Lending participation is not campus ownership, and the full syndicated financing is not the listed bank's retained exposure or revenue.

DataBank Red Oak campus

MUFG Bank acted as administrative agent, coordinating lead arranger and sole bookrunner on the original construction financing, and as lead placement agent on later private notes.

The $2.65 billion campus facility is not all MUFG exposure or revenue. The separate $800 million corporate revolver is not campus construction financing.

Evidence boundaries

Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.

This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
