Coherent
Business, financial evidence and documented connections to the AI buildout.
Business and AI exposure
Coherent makes photonic components and materials used in communications, industrial systems and other applications. Its data-center exposure includes optical technology for high-speed AI networks. It supplies components and manufacturing capability rather than operating the computing workloads supported by those networks.

Financial context
For FY2026, Coherent reported $7.12 billion of sales, including $5.27 billion from Data Center and Communications. That broad segment represented approximately 74% of sales, but includes communications applications beyond AI and does not provide an AI-only revenue measure.
Products and delivery
Coherent’s existing six-inch indium-phosphide platform was already in volume production. The Sherman expansion broke ground in June 2026 and is intended to double facility space and quadruple wafer capacity. Groundbreaking is distinct from completed, customer-qualified manufacturing output.
Plans and commitments
Coherent plans further production expansion during FY2027. NVIDIA bought $2 billion of equity on March 2, 2026, providing capital rather than product revenue. Proposed CHIPS support of up to $50 million for Sherman was a letter of intent, not a disbursed award.

Economics and dependencies
The expansion must progress through construction, equipment installation and manufacturing qualification before additional capacity becomes sellable output. Customer demand and production yields determine the value of that output. Neither the equity investment nor the plant’s proposed capacity specifies Coherent’s future earnings.

What to watch
Production updates should distinguish the broader FY2027 capacity program from the Sherman project itself. Commercial shipments, utilization and capital spending will help explain the return on expansion; Sherman-specific returns and the company’s AI-only sales contribution remain undisclosed.
Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
No named tracked-project role has been established by the evidence used for this profile. This does not mean the company has no AI exposure.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
