Alberta power supply for a major customer
Capital Power owns and operates electricity generation assets. Its agreement with Meta connects an established Alberta generation fleet to future data-center demand. The company’s role is to supply contracted capacity and energy, with returns determined by the supply agreement and the costs of serving it.

Second-quarter 2026 financial context
For the second quarter of 2026, Capital Power reported C$214 million of operating cash flow, C$328 million of adjusted funds from operations and a C$43 million GAAP net loss. Financing costs had increased following acquisitions completed in 2025, providing important context for future cash generation.
Signed agreement, future electricity demand
The July 2026 announcement established a signed energy-supply agreement with Meta. The associated data-center load is expected to begin in the second half of 2028. The 250 MW commitment therefore describes future service, rather than electricity already delivered to that project.
A term exceeding ten years
The Meta agreement covers 250 MW for more than ten years, using Capital Power’s Alberta fleet. The company reported approximately 12 GW of existing generation capacity. Comparing those capacity figures can describe physical scale, but cannot establish the contract’s share of revenue or profit.

Fleet economics and financing costs
The value of the agreement depends on the timing of the customer’s load and the economics of supplying power over the contract term. Higher financing costs also affect company-wide cash available to shareholders. Neither the headline megawatts nor the contract length discloses its standalone earnings contribution.

From contracted service to operating load
The next substantive project evidence would be progress toward Meta’s second-half 2028 service date and confirmation that contracted demand is drawing power. Disclosure of contract pricing, associated costs or earnings contribution would allow a more precise assessment than a capacity comparison alone.

Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
Meta Sturgeon County
Disclosed capacity-and-energy supplier under >10-year ESA, not confirmed current delivery
The documented role does not establish contract value, project-level earnings, accepted operating load or a share of company revenue.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
