First-quarter fiscal 2027 results
C3.ai reported $52.4 million of revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, including $49.2 million of subscription revenue. GAAP gross margin was 32% and the GAAP net loss was $92.812 million, including $59.233 million of stock-based compensation. Cash and securities totaled $651.1 million.
Shell already operates a reliability program
The June 4, 2026 agreement extends an existing Shell program covering more than 13,000 pieces of equipment. That installed operating base distinguishes the relationship from a new pilot. The announcement does not quantify how much of the newly expanded functionality has since been delivered.
A multi-year expansion adds agentic capabilities
The renewed agreement adds agentic root-cause analysis and remediation capabilities to the reliability program. Its multi-year term establishes continued commercial scope, but the incremental contract value, revenue contribution and future acceptance dates were not disclosed. Existing production coverage should remain separate from deployment of the new features.
Operating losses and cash sources
Quarterly operating cash flow and free cash flow were approximately $2.1 million each. Cash growth also included $72.812 million from option exercises, so it cannot all be attributed to operations. Fiscal 2027 guidance anticipated a non-GAAP operating loss of $123 million to $155 million.
Measure expanded delivery and profitability
Deployment of the additional Shell capabilities and customer acceptance would establish execution beyond the renewal announcement. Contract-level sales disclosure would clarify the expansion’s contribution. Across the company, recurring revenue, gross margin and operating cash generation remain important measures of whether enterprise adoption can support a more sustainable earnings model.
Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
No named tracked-project role has been established by the evidence used for this profile. This does not mean the company has no AI exposure.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
