Business, financial evidence and documented connections to the AI buildout.
Managing capital for data-center development
BlackRock is a diversified asset manager. Its AI-infrastructure exposure includes capital managed through businesses such as Global Infrastructure Partners and HPS. Investors in those funds own the underlying assets; BlackRock’s own economics depend on management fees, performance-related income and any capital it contributes.

Third-quarter 2026 financial context
BlackRock reported $15.5 trillion of assets under management and $205 billion of net inflows for the third quarter of 2026. Revenue increased 19% and adjusted operating income rose 27%. These company-wide measures do not identify fees or earnings from a particular AI-infrastructure investment.
El Paso remains under construction
Meta’s July 2026 announcement described a 1 GW data-center campus under construction in El Paso. It anticipated the venture transaction closing shortly afterward. The announcement establishes the development and proposed structure, but does not by itself confirm subsequent closing or operating capacity.
An approximately $14 billion venture
The announced structure assigns an 80% interest to BlackRock-managed funds and 20% to Meta, with Meta initially the sole occupant. The approximately $14 billion long-lived development cost belongs to the venture’s project economics and should not be read as BlackRock corporate revenue or investment.
Construction and investment-manager economics
The commercial outcome depends on the campus being completed, occupied and operated under the venture arrangements. For BlackRock shareholders, a separate question is how fund commitments translate into fees, performance income and corporate capital exposure; the disclosures do not quantify those project-specific amounts.
Initial operation is planned for 2028
The announced campus is expected to begin coming online in 2028. Confirmation of closing, construction progress and the first operating capacity would establish successive milestones. Greater disclosure of BlackRock’s own fee and capital interests would clarify how those physical milestones affect the listed company.
Documented project connections
Each connection below has a specific, cited role. A supplier, lender, customer or proposed acquirer has different economics from the project owner.
CyrusOne Allen campus
Funds managed by GIP, part of BlackRock since October 1, 2024, participate in ownership of CyrusOne, the Allen campus developer/operator.
BlackRock's acquisition of the GIP manager does not convert GIP client-fund assets into wholly owned BLK corporate property. This supports indirect managed-platform exposure only; public-parent Allen equity, fee income, operating earnings and project returns are unestablished.

Meta El Paso
Meta describes an 80% venture interest for funds managed by BlackRock. Reuters reports a project-linked bond sale; this does not establish the venture’s complete funding or BlackRock corporate balance-sheet exposure.
The documented role does not establish contract value, project-level earnings, accepted operating load or a share of company revenue.
Evidence boundaries
Company totals, segment sales, bookings, backlog, spending, capacity and usage describe different things. They do not establish project-level revenue, earnings or an exact AI-only revenue share unless the cited disclosure explicitly says so.
This is a dated research snapshot. Forecasts are attributed expectations, and undisclosed amounts remain unknown. Source review does not certify every project or future outcome.
